VP of Engineering
Stable Sea
About Stable Sea
Stable Sea is building the institutional backbone for global stablecoin use cases.
Enterprises—from Fortune 500 treasury teams to high-growth fintechs—use our platform to move stablecoins into local currencies across global markets with deep liquidity, enterprise-grade compliance, and predictable settlement.
We are scaling quickly, backed by top investors, with active customers in production and a clear path to Series A. As we grow, we're looking for a VP of Engineering to own execution, technical delivery, and engineering leadership across the company.
The Role
This is a VP of Engineering role for a hands-on technical leader who can own engineering execution end-to-end while working closely with the founders on technical strategy.
In the near term, this role is highly involved: building systems, leading critical customer deployments, and setting standards. Over time, you will scale the engineering organization, establish durable processes, and ensure Stable Sea is technically and operationally ready for Series A and beyond.
This is a leadership role for someone who still enjoys building, especially in complex, high-stakes financial systems.
What You'll Own
Engineering Leadership & Execution
- Own engineering delivery, velocity, and quality across the company
- Translate company and product goals into a clear engineering roadmap
- Partner with founders on prioritization, sequencing, and technical tradeoffs
- Hire, mentor, and manage engineers as the team grows
- Establish engineering processes that scale
Platform Architecture & Backend Systems
- Lead design and implementation of backend systems powering stablecoin treasury flows
- Ensure systems are reliable, secure, observable, and built to scale
- Guide architectural decisions across services, data models, and integrations
- Own cloud infrastructure decisions across AWS and GCP
Security, Compliance & Risk Ownership
- Own engineering's contribution to security and compliance
- Ensure systems support regulated financial workflows and auditability
- Lead engineering preparation for customer security reviews
- Establish best practices around access control, encryption, and monitoring
Customer-Facing Engineering
- Stay close to key enterprise customers during onboarding and integrations
- Support architecture reviews, troubleshooting, and production readiness
- Ensure customer-specific needs feed back into the core platform
- Represent engineering in high-stakes customer and partner conversations
What We're Looking For
- 8–12+ years of experience in backend engineering, platform engineering, or technical leadership roles
- Prior experience leading engineering teams at an early-stage or scaling startup
- Strong systems design background, ideally in fintech, payments, blockchain, or regulated environments
- Hands-on experience building distributed backend systems (Go preferred; Kotlin, Rust, Java also relevant)
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with high ownership
- Experience working directly with customers or external partners on technical integrations
- Bonus: experience with stablecoins, blockchain infrastructure, or enterprise treasury systems
Why This Role Is Special
- True leadership ownership: You'll own engineering execution, not just manage tickets
- Hands-on impact: Still close to the code and the systems that move real money
- Series A–critical role: Shape the engineering org investors will evaluate
- Customer proximity: Build for real enterprise use cases, not abstract roadmaps
- Senior, focused team: Work with founders who value clarity, rigor, and ownership
- Category-defining space: Help define how institutions use stablecoins in global commerce
Benefits
- Remote-friendly with flexible hours
- Competitive compensation with meaningful equity upside
- Comprehensive healthcare (medical, dental, vision)
- 401(k) with employer contribution
- Direct exposure to enterprise customers, partners, and regulators shaping next-gen financial infrastructure
This role is for someone who wants to own engineering outcomes, build teams, and ship real financial infrastructure — not just manage from a distance. If you've been the person accountable for "does this actually work in production?" we'd love to talk.
